Roads Policing Team – Suffolk Constabulary
Join the Roads Policing Team role at Suffolk Constabulary.
Suffolk Constabulary is looking to recruit a designated AIL (Abnormal Indivisible Loads) Team to escort abnormal loads relating to NSIP’S (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects) within the county. Suffolk’s road network presents challenges for the movement of abnormal loads, and with several projects planned, the demand for escort services will increase. Locations of these projects are spread across the county, largely in the energy sector, with pick‑up and drop‑off sites in Suffolk and neighbouring counties.
We are seeking applications from officers to join a Roads Policing Team specifically dedicated to these NSIP’s.
The principal role of the NSIP’s team will be to safely escort AILs that are connected to the projects in and around Suffolk and neighbouring forces, and to focus on road safety linked to the increased road‑related demand created by the projects by targeting ‘Fatal 4’ offences.
The team will be required to work a shift pattern made up of early shifts, with an emphasis on flexibility where required. Stations will be Police Headquarters in Martlesham and Lowestoft Police Station. With staggered commencement dates of the projects, the team will work with several projects over several years; once completed, opportunities for redeployment within the Roads and Armed Policing Team will remain.
For instance, the current Sizewell C project is 12 years long.
We are specifically looking for a Police Motorcyclist with a passion for roads policing.
Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:- Police response or advanced motorcyclist.
- Police advanced car or evidence of suitability.
- Escorting other road users trained (Abnormal Loads) or evidence of suitability.
- Demonstrates an interest in Roads Policing and a passion for road safety and Fatal 4 enforcement.
- Passion for police motorcycling and performing the role within the Roads Policing Team.
- Officer safety on the roads trained (Fast Roads).
- Weight trained.
- FIT‑DRT.
- Speed Device trained.
- Traffic Law Course (3‑week course).
- Intoximeter trained.
- Drug wipe.
