We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide essential care to patients registered at our Practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality care. You will be required to work until 8.00pm once a week, to be discussed.
Main duties of the jobDuties
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and progress.
- Care out various duties including dressings, injections, ECGs, Phlebotomy, NHS health checks plus other duties, all after appropriate training and sign off by qualified nurse.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
- Understanding of care plans and the ability to follow them accurately.
- Strong IT skills for maintaining patient records and documentation.
- Proficient in English with excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A valid driving licence is preferred for those required to travel between locations.
- A caring nature with a passion for helping others is essential.

About usWe are a busy practice who look after 15500 patients over 2 sites. Our team consists of, 3 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, 1 Practice Manager, 2 ACP, 4 Practice Nurses, 2 Pharmacists and 4 Healthcare Assistants. We also have ARRS staff attached to the surgery. A large admin team.
Job responsibilitiesRESPONSIBLE TO

Administratively to Nurse Administrator (Alison Jervis)
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
To assist with the provision of nursing services to patients attending the practice and assisting the nurses and GPs in the provision of general and specialist medical services.
Special note: HCAs will not interpret results and will only carry out work to protocols.
To ensure the day-to-day activities of the practice are carried out accordingly.
Liaison with other members of the Primary Health Care team in order to provide continuity and effective desired overall care of Practice patients.
- 1.Work alongside the Health Care Professionals in the provision of patient care and in accordance with Practice protocols and procedures.
- 2.Undertake and record the following using practice policy and templates:
a. New patient checks
b. CVD risk-health checks
c. Chronic disease checks relevant to your role including Hypertension, spirometry
d. B12 injections
e. Measurements of height and weight
f. Urinalysis
g. Measurement of blood pressure/pulse
h. Peak flow measurements
i. Recording of ECGs
j. Alcohol and smoking histories
k. Drug allergy history - 3.Administer flu vaccinations during flu season.
- 4.Carry out basic dressings for patients following practice protocol or as directed by a nurse, more complex dressings to level of competence with training as needed.
- 5.Document findings in patients paper and computer records and report any abnormal findings or changes in patients observations.
- 6.Assist Health Care Professionals in emergency management of patients and be confident in basic resuscitation techniques.
- 7.Assist GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings (as requested).
- 8.Be aware of when to refer the patient to a Doctor or Nurse and enable patients to access appropriate professionals or clinics within the Practice.
- 9.Act as a chaperone.
- 10.Appreciate the principles of healthy living and provide relevant health promotion information literature for patients.
- 11.Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks.
- 12.Be fully aware of the limitations on medical advice that may be given within the remit of the role.
- 13.Document and report all clinical incidents or near misses through the recognised procedure so that they may be addressed through the Significant Event Audit.
- 14.Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs.
- 15.Maintain HCA treatment room, stocking and rotating items as required.
- 16.Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of HCA treatment rooms.
- 17.Maintain stock of certain waiting room leaflets if instructed by partners and/or practice manager.
- 18.Maintain daily log of refrigerator temperatures if asked to do so.
- 19.Order of Health Promotion Literature.
- 20.Undertake Phlebotomy clinics as and when required.
- 21.Undertake the new INR blood testing for patients using INR Star.
- 22.Understand how to identify and act upon safeguarding concerns, about children and vulnerable adults, in an appropriate manner, to Level 2 East of England Guidance on Safeguarding Children.
