Safety Management Superintendent

Lowestoft - Job Type: Full-time
- Salary: £50,000 per annum
Join a premier operator of high-performance Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs), actively supporting offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe. We are looking for a Safety Management Superintendent to oversee and enhance our Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring adherence to the ISM Code, UK maritime legislation, and client specifications. This pivotal role supports vessel crews, spearheads safety initiatives, and promotes operational excellence throughout our expanding fleet.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Maintain and refine the Safety Management System (SMS) according to ISM, ISO, and Workboat Code standards.
- Conduct internal audits on vessels and shore-based operations.
- Prepare vessels and crews for MCA inspections, external audits, and client assurance visits.
- Offer daily safety and compliance support to Masters, crew, and operations teams.
- Lead incident investigations and conduct root-cause analysis.
- Approve and review risk assessments, method statements, and operational procedures.
- Facilitate emergency response planning and participate in the emergency response team.
- Manage crew competence, drills, training, and familiarisation processes.
- Generate safety performance reports for senior management and clients.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Regularly engage with crew and clients in-person and via digital platforms.
Required Skills &
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of the ISM Code and UK maritime legislation.
- Proven background in marine safety, compliance, or superintendent roles.
- Seagoing experience and familiarity with audit and incident investigation processes.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
- Desirable: ISM/ISO internal auditor qualification, Designated Person Ashore (DPA) certification, experience in the offshore wind or CTV/workboat sector, knowledge of digital fleet management systems and offshore-specific CRM/ERP software, NEBOSH or similar safety qualification.
