Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in the construction, repair, and maintenance of pipelines and related equipment for the municipal water and wastewater systems; paved and unpaved street and storm water systems; or in the collection of solid waste.
- Assist supervisor in scheduling, planning, and supervising the work of personnel engaged in pipeline construction, repair, and maintenance;paved and unpaved street and storm water systems; or in the collection of solid waste
- Select, train, evaluate, and supervise personnel directly or through subordinate personnel. Establish performance standards, work priorities, and schedules.
- Conduct field inspections to lay out project, check work in progress, and inspect completed projects.
- Coordinate construction activities within the department other city departments, and other utilities.
- Assist in preparation and administration of department budget.
- Maintain records of work performed and material, labor, and equipment usage; compile data and prepare reports on activities.
- Ensure that equipment is properly maintained.
- Coordinate activities with Purchasing, Warehouse, and outside vendors to procure materials and supplies.
- Provide information to the public and assist in resolving problems or complaints.
- Perform related duties as directed.
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent.
Water:
*** Critical Infrastructure:
This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components.
This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***
Additional five years experience in the supervision of heavy construction work with an emphasis on pipeline construction and maintenance, including supervisory and administrative experience.
For Solid Waste:Five years minimum experience in the supervision of solid waste work with an emphasis on collections, including supervisory and administrative experience.
Or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- The operation and maintenance of heavy construction and/or collection equipment
- Job costing and job cost tracking
- Recordkeeping, purchasing and budgeting
Physical Exam Required
Valid Current Commercial Driver's License
The possession of, or the ability to obtain a DOT class A CDL with the proper endorsements within six months.
Pipeline Maintenance:
Prefer Class B water or wastewater license. Must be able to obtain Class C water or wastewater license within 2 years of hire, and obtain Class B water or wastewater license within 3 years of hire.
Solid Waste:
Prefer Solid Waste license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

- The various materials used in concrete and asphalt pavement repair.
- Work Zone set up and traffic safety.
- Heavy construction equipment care and maintenance
- Collection of and transportation of municipal solid waste
- Repair of all types of fencing
- Operational safety
- Supervise the work of others;
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, and the public;
- Obtain Class C Water Distribution license and Class II Waste Water Collection License within one year of hire. (Pipeline Maintenance)
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds;
- Frequently climb ladders, stairs, and inclined surfaces;
- Frequently bend and kneel during the shift;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently reach above, at, or below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movements to operate a vehicle.
