A philosophy of ministry statement is a brief explanation of how you intend to carry out the ministry in practice. For this position, describe how you would approach adult spiritual formation, including your guiding models, methods, and priorities for helping adults grow in Christ.
Areas of Responsibility- Collaborate with ministry staff, deacons, and volunteer leaders to build healthy systems of adult spiritual formation, including small groups, adult Bible classes, men’s and women’s ministries, and young adult discipleship. Chair the Spiritual Formation Leadership Team (SFLT). Be supported pastorally by the Lead Minister and equipped systematically and strategically by the Executive Minister.
- Act as an architect for Broadway’s adult formation ministries and serve as chair of the Spiritual Formation Leadership Team.
- Act as the advocate for the Spiritual Formation ministries.
- Develop a balanced and sustainable vision for spiritual formation that aligns with Broadway’s larger mission and vision.
- Develop and distribute essential ministry documents in a timely fashion (curriculum plans, ministry calendars, class schedules, small group leader resources, leader contact lists, and volunteer systems).
- Work with the SFLT to develop, implement, and maintain foundational ministry documents (such as vision, budget, training resources, and class and small group models).
- Remain attentive to the pastoral needs, spiritual victories, and concerns among adult ministries, and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
- Troubleshoot ministry challenges with the SFLT and provide support for healthy solutions.
- Attend weekly Ministry Team meetings to contribute to Broadway’s vision and help translate it into adult spiritual formation.
- Be involved in the broader life of Broadway and help align spiritual formation ministries with the church's overall goals.
- Communicate with staff in a way that keeps them informed and supportive of formation efforts.
- Attend the annual Ministry Team Retreat to align vision and plan strategic ministry initiatives.
- Oversee Broadway’s small group system and structure.
- Recruit, train, and support group leaders.
- Provide vetted resources and recommended curriculum when requested.
- Support multiplication of groups as leaders develop and capacity grows.
- Ensure systems exist for connecting new people into groups.
- Coordinate adult classes with class chairs for Sunday and Wednesday gatherings.
- Develop and maintain a rotating curriculum with the Adult Ed. committee.
- Ensure teachers are equipped and supported with curriculum and classroom structure.
- Recruit and encourage teachers in collaboration with class chairs.
- Visit classes periodically and provide supportive feedback.
- Cultivate a clear discipleship pathway for young adults (ages 24
-30). - Coordinate an ongoing class and/or small-group network tailored to this life stage.
- Identify, recruit, and coach young-adult leaders; build a leadership pipeline.
- Integrate young adults into service, mentoring, and intergenerational relationships.
- Offer formative Bible class topics and connect participants into broader church life.
- Serve as a liaison to the Men’s and Women’s Ministry leaders and deacon(s).
- Help clarify vision, direction, and ministry rhythms in alignment with Broadway’s discipleship plan.
- Equip and encourage volunteer leaders by offering training and resource support.
- Ensure that ministry plans and communication integrate well with the church's overall efforts.
- Support leaders in developing mentoring, service, and spiritual growth opportunities.
- Elder-Ministry Liaison – Serves as a shepherding partner and advocate for your ministry, staying engaged with your ministry to encourage, guide, and champion the work alongside you.
- Lead Minister – Offers pastoral care, and encouragement to help you flourish spiritually and relationally.
- Executive Minister – Comes alongside you to build healthy ministry systems, clarify expectations, and remove barriers so your ministry can thrive.
- Ministry Team – Collaborates with you to align ministries, share ideas and resources, and support church-wide goals through teamwork.
- Spiritual Formation Leadership Team – Partners with you in planning, problem-solving, and implementing adult spiritual formation efforts, sharing leadership and supporting volunteers so ministry is healthy, sustainable, and never done alone.
