Job Title: Upper School Teacher
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Head of the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric
Purpose
Educate upper school students (6th through 12th grades) using classical methods and a biblical worldview to prepare students to diligently pursue God’s truth, knowledge and wisdom and to communicate their thoughts effectively in writing and orally.
Summary
Provide instruction in a discussion-based, classical-Christian curriculum with emphasis on sound logical and rhetorical principles. In alignment with the School’s Statement of Faith and the Portrait of a KPA Teacher, the teacher will mentor students and partner with parents and colleagues and pursue ongoing professional development.
Supervision
Receives direction from the Upper School Head, Assistant Upper School Head, and department chair. Exercises supervision over students and the classroom environment. Regular work-review by the School.

- Spiritual Leadership
- Study the Bible, articulate personal/ethical implications of following Jesus Christ
- Measure knowledge against Scripture; support the school’s Christian mission and values
- Model Christian living and support the School’s Statement of Faith and Portrait of a Teacher
- Lesson Planning, Preparation and Presentation
- Demonstrate pedagogical knowledge in a classical, Christian school
- Establish a classroom environment aligned with classical methodology and biblical worldview
- Develop and implement lesson plans and schedules; maintain curriculum alignment
- Meet deadlines for lesson plans and grade/attendance entry; establish standards for student performance
- Student Learning
- Deliver instruction through multiple modalities; connect subjects within God’s integrated universe
- Provide timely feedback and assess student progress; maintain records in FACTS/Renweb
- Classroom Management
- Uphold School policies; establish and maintain positive classroom climate and safety
- Manage behavior according to Upper School policies; ensure a safe, organized learning environment
- Communication
- Engage students and maintain professional communication with parents and staff
- Provide academic information and updates to families; collaborate with the Upper School Head
- Professionalism
- Demonstrate commitment to KPA and Christian education; model reliability and servant leadership
- Accept feedback and pursue professional growth; participate in faculty meetings and development
These job functions are performed concurrently with those listed above.
Essential Requirements- Disciple of Jesus Christ modeling obedience to Scripture; alignment with KPA’s faith and mission
- Full support of KPA’s Statement of Faith, Mission, and Vision
- Ability to mentor students in a discipleship-oriented setting
- Love for working with middle and high school students; view challenges as ministry opportunities
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
- Spiritual maturity, diplomacy, integrity, and professionalism
- Confidentiality and ability to supervise and motivate students and staff
- Clear communication; apply policies fairly
- Decision-making in emergencies; computer proficiency (email, Renweb/FACTS, word processing)
- Knowledge of classical Christian education philosophy
- Post-graduate degree
- Regular movement on campus; ability to observe students
- Vision and hearing adequate for classroom work; ability to lift 5–20 pounds occasionally
- Prolonged standing, kneeling/squatting, bending, and other physical activity as needed
