POSITION DESCRIPTION

The School of Music in the J.T. & Margaret Talking ton College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Music Education with an emphasis on Instrumental (Band) Pedagogy to begin September 1, 2026.

MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower
a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the School of Music, you will be expected to:

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, including band techniques and methods courses on a variety of wind, brass, and/or percussion instruments.

Participate in ongoing reviews of student progress and readiness for entry into the music education profession.

Recruit and retain a talented cohort of graduate and undergraduate students to programs within the School of Music and College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Direct graduate and undergraduate student research including service on thesis and dissertation committees.

Participate in outreach and engagement with the music education community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

Evidence of research and/or publications that demonstrates emerging or established national/international recognition in music education.

Demonstrated familiarity with current trends in public/private school music education;

Ability to work collaboratively with music education colleagues and current practitioners in the public/private schools.

Demonstrative effectiveness as a communicator in written and spoken forms.

Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental (band) music education.

Clear potential to obtain external funding and support to continue research agenda in music education.

Active engagement in professional organizations with demonstrated potential for future leadership.
