Founded in 1925 as one of the university’s four original colleges, the College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of 15 departments offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The college enrolls over 10,000 students, representing over a quarter of the Texas Tech University student population. In addition to its growth, the college maintains a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.

The Social Work Program is housed in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. The BASW program was initially accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in 1979. The Master of Social Work (MSW) program, offering an advanced generalist approach with a focus on health and well-being, was established in 2015 and is fully accredited through 2031. Currently, 12 full‑time faculty lines and 2 full‑time staff positions are dedicated to preparing BASW- and MSW‑level students.

The Social Work Program in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full‑time, in‑person, tenure‑track, 9‑month Assistant Professor beginning September 1, 2027. Tenure‑track faculty are expected to maintain a research agenda, teach two courses each long semester, as assigned and in accordance with program needs, as well as to engage in service activities with the university, the community, and/or the profession.
