To supervise and coordinate development work activities for Sr. Engineering Inspectors and to oversee and conduct inspections of workmanship, and materials used in a variety of development projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and departmental regulations.
- Coordinate and assign development projects to Sr. Engineering Inspectors.
- Assist as needed with the day-to-day inspection of development projects.
- Manage, interview, hire, monitor, and evaluate Sr. Engineering Inspectors, which includes providing training and oversight to ensure safe and accurate inspections.
- Evaluate employees and work with them to correct deficiencies; and implement discipline up to and including termination, maintain administrative records for staff members.
- Assist with disputes among engineering inspectors and developers, contractors, and the general public.
- Participate in providing or coordinating staff training.
Completion of three years of college coursework in engineering or a closely related field with an additional two years’ experience in inspection related to engineering / public works or other large scale construction projects; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides certification in related fields.

- TCEQ Class C Water License
You must possess or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year
- Level 1B roadway Certificate
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Nuclear Density Gauge Operator and Hazmat Certification
- The materials, methods, and practices of municipal construction projects
- Water, Wastewater, Stormwater products
- Soils, Aggregates
- Concrete, Asphalt
- The principles and practices of engineering inspection and testing
- Water pressure testing, Chlorine testing and flushing, Bacteriological testing
- Wastewater pressure and vacuum testing, mineral testing
- Soils compaction and PI testing
- Aggregate gradation and soundness testing
- Concrete air, slump, and strength testing
- Asphalt sampling, coring, and air testing
- The fundamental principles of computer operations
- Management and Supervision:
Personnel motivation, oversight, and evaluation; - Customer and Personal Service:
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standard, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques; - Design:
Design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precise technical plans; - Public Works / Engineering Construction:
Materials, methods, laws, and tools to safely and accurately complete construction projects.
- Conduct Feasibility Analyses:
Reading and visualizing the constructability of engineering design plans and specifications. Identifying constructability issues during design and/or construction phases; - Participate in Active Listening:
Listening to what other are saying and asking questions as appropriate; - Perform Written and Oral Expression:
Communicating orally and in writing the construction status and issues to a variety of people ranging from the general public to construction contractors to professional technical and non-technical personnel; - Develop Process Assessments:
Developing process improvements to make work unit more efficient; - Manage Productivity / Workload Optimization:
Managing and allocating workload throughout the inspection team to maximize inspections; - Encourage Innovation:
Promote others to consider approaching unique construction issues differently.
- Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently stand and walk during the shift;
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and other inclined surfaces;
- Occasionally bend and kneel;
- Occasionally push and pull objects;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle, distance measuring device, and laboratory equipment;
- Stand on the edge of an excavation and / or trench protection.
