Job SummaryThe linguist performs real‑time transcriptions of sensitive Spanish material to English, analyzes slang, and communicates information to law enforcement agents. Tasks include transcribing audio cassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Listen to oral and written intercepts in Spanish and provide written synopsis and transcriptions.
- Relate all pertinent information to the client during live projects.
- Contribute to a master list of slang words and codes for the duration of the project.
- Maintain a voice library throughout the project.
- Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned.
- Produce court‑ready transcriptions following required format.
- Use specialized reference tools created during the project.
- Transcribe at least 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
- Operate government equipment such as JSI voice box, Pen‑link, and Comverse.
- Maintain a daily log of productivity.
- Perform related duties within the scope of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree AND 3 years’ experience OR Associate degree AND 5 years’ experience OR High School Diploma AND 7 years’ experience.
- Minimum 1 year of transcription experience in Spanish.
- Subject to government background investigation; must meet contract requirement of a score of 3+ on a third‑party language assessment in English.
- U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Knowledge of source language colloquialisms and expressions.
- Experience with SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
- Excellent verbal and written Spanish skills, correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment; effective communication with management and law enforcement personnel.
- Prioritize tasks, manage time, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment.
- Type 45 words per minute.
- Obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
- Pass background investigation, medical, and drug screen.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident with past 3 of 5 years in the U.S.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility for meetings.
- Climbing/Kneeling: 0%‑10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0%‑10% of the time.
- Must write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- Extended sitting while monitoring live or taped calls; limited desk movement for live monitoring and translating calls.
