Position:
Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Liang Group (Chemistry, Biology, Physics).
Performs specialized postdoctoral work in the planning, conducting, and supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and interpreting the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.
Major / Essential FunctionsThe Liang Group is seeking a motivated and independent postdoc to work on the multiscale simulation of photoactive proteins.
Responsibilities- Develop and use advanced electronic structure, quantum dynamics, and enhanced sampling methods to study photochemical reactions in biomolecules.
- Apply strong independent problem‑solving skills in molecular simulations and track the most recent research progress in the literature related to the projects.
- Work independently without much reliance on the PI’s hands‑on guidance.
- Actively discuss research progress with the PI, attend conferences to present research, and write high‑quality drafts of manuscripts.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
- PhD in the area of project specialization.
- Knowledge of modern research practices, methods, resources, and standards.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, exercise independent judgment, and integrate resources and information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
- Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related field.
- Experience in method development and coding.
- Research experience in at least two of the following areas: method and software development; quantum dynamics and mixed quantum‑classical dynamics simulation; excited‑state electronic structure calculation; enhanced sampling method and free‑energy calculation; non‑adiabatic dynamics simulations and method developments.
- Good publication record.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
