May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The Artificial Lift Center of Excellence (AL-COE), led by Dr. Stuart L Scott (Winkler Chair of Petroleum Engineering) at Texas Tech University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the research in the area of artificial lift systems and associated topics such as production from long lateral horizontal wells. Responsibilities include experiments with Rod Lift, Gas Lift, ESPs, surface multiphase pumps and other types of lift methods.

The position will assist PhD, MS and undergraduate students with the testing and improving artificial lift methods, helping the PI manage research projects, and exploring new research topics.

Expectations for the position are to design both large‑scale and lab‑scale experiments, execute test programs, analyze data from experiments or from the oil field and develop models needed. The position is expected to play a major role in interpret the results and publish high‑quality peer‑reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings. Excellent writing and presentation skills are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidate should possess a PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other STEM areas with expertise in one or more areas in production engineering, reservoir engineering, multiphase flow in pipes, materials science, drilling engineering, completion engineering or hydraulic fracturing. Preference will be given to those with prior experience in the oil and gas industry and those familiar with artificial lift methods.

The candidate should also possess experience with experimental research. Knowledge of modern research tools, including data acquisitions systems, SCADA and automation. Strong data analytics skills are essential.
