Summary Of Responsibilities

The Waitstaff / Server is responsible for table service in the Community dining rooms and assists the Dining Room Manager with the overall operation, coordination, appearance and maintenance of the dining area and waitress station, ensuring courteous and efficient service.

Essential Job Functions
  • Sets tables and maintains workstations.
  • Takes orders, provides service and requested items courteously.
  • Clears dishes during and after meal service.
  • Answers questions about menu items.
  • Assists with dish washing and distribution of clean dishes when needed.
  • Maintains high customer service for residents and guests.
  • Advises the Restaurant Manager regarding dining room status.
  • Sets up and cleans up after all catering events.
  • Completes all assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Maintains safe and sanitary conditions in work areas.
  • Attends training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Performs specific duties assigned by supervisor.
Other Responsibilities
  • Come to work with a positive attitude.
  • Get your shift covered if you can’t work.
  • Wear the proper uniform.
  • Remain for your entire shift unless approved.
  • No gossip or unprofessional behavior.
  • Complete tasks promptly when requested by management.
  • Report emergencies and sick days with adequate notice.
  • Provide doctor’s notes when required.
  • Act professionally at all times.
  • Keep internal Carillon information confidential.
  • Finish side duties before shift end or face disciplinary action.
  • Follow sanitary guidelines and health regulations.
  • Answer the Skylight order phone when it rings.
  • Set up, serve, and break down all scheduled caterings.

  • Greet residents, employees, and guests warmly, by name and with a smile.
  • Treat everyone with courteous respect.
  • Anticipate and respond to resident, employee, and guest needs.
  • Listen and respond enthusiastically and in a timely manner.

  • Make residents, employees, and guests feel important.
  • Ask, "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
  • Maintain high professionalism in conduct and appearance.
  • Pay attention to details.
Knowledge and Ability
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisors, and peers; empathy for the elderly.
  • Ability to interpret and explain menu items and coordinate meal service.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) months of previous experience waiting tables in a hotel, restaurant, or club with fine dining preferred; training provided.
Physical and Mental Conditions

Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time. Able to stand, walk, lift up to 20 lbs., and push/pull carts up to 50 lbs. Frequently bend, stoop, reach, and balance. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, communicable diseases, and offensive odors.
