JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Security Officer

Reports to: Security Supervisor, Plant Director Department: Security Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions, it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents, visitors, staff, and protecting Carillon property. Will be responsible for verifying the scheduled presence of all employees and third party contractors on the grounds. The Security Officer will also be involved in the transportation of residents between buildings and occasional off-campus transport.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Makes scheduled rounds both inside and outside the buildings to maintain a secure environment for residents and their property as well as company property.
  • Responds to all fire alarms and apartment emergency calls.
  • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by supervisor.
  • Performs light maintenance as time allows such as changing light bulbs, touch up painting and similar assignments.
  • Maintains all tools, equipment and supplies in proper condition.
  • Attends in-service training and education session, as assigned.
  • Transports Residents and Visitors between buildings during functions
  • Occasional off-campus transportation as needed.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be skilled in the use of all appropriate machinery, tools, and security supplies.
  • Must have an understanding of general security and safety practices.
  • Must have good driving record.
  • Must meet Carillon’s insurance company requirements on maximum traffic violations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Have a High School diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in security or peacekeeping area.
  • Current Driver’s License; CDL preferred;
    Good driving record; ability to meet Company’s auto insurance requirements.
PERSONAL AND PUBLIC CONTACT

The Security Officer will have personal contact with all levels of Carillon staff, residents, community agencies, government agencies and local authorities.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS

Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time; may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to walk 90% of the workday; ability to stoop and stretch occasionally; ability to operate a motor vehicle with no restrictions; little or no exposure to the HBV and HIV viruses.

EQUIPMENT USED

The Security Officer will use the following equipment: motorized vehicles, various safety and security equipment, computer and various computer programs, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, and heavy phone usage.

OSHA TASK CATEGORY II

Tasks that possibly may have exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues but Category I tasks are not a condition of employment.

COMPLIANCE

Responsible for abiding by all Carillon policies and procedures to include the Code of Ethics and the principles and standards set forth for conducting the business and affairs of Carillon, Inc.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

The Security Officer will be responsible for abiding by all Carillon policies and procedures relating to HIPAA.
