Duties

Special agents carry out investigations and protection assignments, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing protection for various protectees.
  • Conducting criminal investigations related to U.S. financial obligations.
  • Planning and implementing security for National Special Security Events.

Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory.
  • Age between 21 and 37 at application; exceptions apply for prior federal law enforcement service or veteran's preference.
  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Visual acuity of 20/100 uncorrected; corrected 20/20 or better.
  • Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in key frequencies.
  • Pass drug testing before appointment and randomly thereafter.
  • Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks at James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
  • Willingness to accept assignments nationwide and overseas.
  • Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt.
