Performs skilled work on the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of fiber optic, copper and wireless networks including field devices, fiber optic cables, copper cables, wireless radios and antennas, network enclosures and panels throughout the City of Lubbock. Performs skilled work on the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, electrical and electronic equipment.

  • Install new network components including fiber optic cable, copper cable, wireless radios, antennas, network enclosures, network switches and field devices;
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair physical network connections over fiber optic cable, copper cable and wireless links;
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair local area and wide area network connections and field devices utilizing serial and Internet Protocol (IP) standards;
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic control devices and equipment to meet associated construction standards established by the Texas Department of Transportation, Federal High Administration, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and National Electric Code;
  • Terminate electrical connections for traffic signal cable, fiber optic cable, communication cable, antenna cable, electrical service, signal heads, shafts, pull boxes, and traffic control cabinets to include traffic signal control computers, radios, modems, power supplies, and load switches. Splice and troubleshoot fiber optic cable, traffic signal cable, communication cable, and electrical service into conduits and termination boxes;
  • Operates and maintains equipment to perform job duties including digital voltmeters, ammeters, radio programmers, PC-based conflict monitor tester, inductive loop analyzer, school zone programmers, aerial hydraulic equipment, backhoe, bobcat, trencher, concrete saws, air compressors and associated tools;
  • Install video detection cameras and associated electronics, microwave data telemetry systems, emergency vehicle priority systems, remotely programmed school zone controllers, audible handicapped-access pedestrian signals, and vehicle detection inductive loops;
  • Respond to emergency calls to troubleshoot and repair the traffic signal systems. Includes availability for call out 24/7;
  • Make scheduled inspections, maintain records and prepare field reports involving construction, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices and equipment for the traffic signal system;
  • Analyze field problems and equipment needs;
  • Install traffic signal shafts, mast arms, signal heads, and cabinets;
  • Install piers, re-bar cages, anchor bolts, conduit stub-in and setting forms. Pour concrete for traffic signal shafts, pedestrian signal bases, and cabinet foundations;
  • Install underground conduits and pull boxes;
  • Remove and refurbish traffic signal heads and related equipment;
  • Supervise and perform re-lamping and upgrading of bulbs, and replacement of light emitting diodes in traffic signals;
  • Perform related duties as required.

The position requires four to six years of experience in installation, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical or electronic equipment, communications equipment and networks comprised of fiber optic, copper and wireless medium; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills

Valid Current Commercial Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Proper fiber installation techniques.
  • Proper copper cable installation techniques.
  • Network topology and comprehend physical network links, including correlation between wide area and local area network connections.
  • Troubleshooting of electronic, electrical, radio and fiber equipment.
ABILITY/SKILL TO:
