Position: Water W/W System Mechanic Asst

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean, replace parts, and assemble heavy industrial equipment typically found in waterworks systems including pumps, valves, motors, and compressors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspect equipment for proper operation or signs of malfunction. Use electronic test equipment to collect machine data such as vibration and shaft alignment.
  • Obtain parts and supplies as necessary to complete repairs.
  • Assist mechanic in installation of new equipment or repair of existing equipment.
  • Assist in documentation of work orders and contacting vendors.
  • Check pumps periodically for leaks.
  • Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year experience in maintenance and/or repair of heavy stationary equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Current Driver's License

Physical Exam Required
Requires employee to be clean-shaven

This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***

Knowledge of
  • Principles and methods of mechanical repair.
Ability to
  • Use a variety of power, pneumatic, and hand tools.
  • Properly use safety equipment such as gas detectors and breathing apparatus.
  • Drive a forklift.
  • Handle tools, repair parts, etc.
  • Perform hard physical labor around sewage.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently stand and walk during the shift.
  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces.
  • Frequently pull and push objects.
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right and left while sitting and standing.
  • Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
  • Frequently bend and kneel while working on equipment.
  • Move body in a crawling motion.
