ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Ensures greens are quality. Mows greens daily, applies plant protectants and fertilizers. Scouts greens for insects and disease.
- Manages staff. Sets up daily tasks lists and directs staff to ensure sustainable levels of productivity.
- Creates fertilizer and chemical plan seasonally. Monitors supplies and ensures timeliness of stock on shelves.
- Examines equipment to ensure quality operations with irrigation system. Repairs, schedules, and conducts preventive maintenance.
- Manages budget and orders supplies for maintenance of golf course and club house. Purchases include chemicals, fertilizers, gas, diesel, heating oil, parts, janitorial supplies, golf course materials, hand and power tools, and paint.
- Supervises, trains, hires, evaluates, and disciplines staff.
- Schedules and performs curative and preventative repairs to facilities. Directs staff and performs plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and cleaning services.
- Removes dead and decaying trees and removes the effects of emergency storm damage.
- Operates equipment, including turbine blower, to remove debris and leaves, and operate mowers.
- Performs janitorial duties at maintenance shop and clubhouse, occasionally; and removes trash.
- Performs administrative office and clerical duties.
- Prepares reports on pesticide, irrigation, and water use for the State of Massachusetts.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s preferred, plus 5+ years as an Assistant Superintendent and in the golf industry or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience are required. Extensive experience in agronomy, mechanics, irrigation, budgeting, pesticides and fertilizers, drainage, and building maintenance is required.
Special Requirements:
Massachusetts Commercial Pesticide License. Mass Driver’s License. MA Hoisting License. Underground Storage Certification for gasoline and diesel.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILL, AND JUDGMENT
Knowledge
:
Knowledge and proficient experience with irrigation scheduling. Demonstrated and proficient mechanical and trades skill knowledge to perform multiple types of repairs and to perform facility and equipment maintenance. Advanced mechanical and plumbing knowledge to maintain and repair old irrigation systems and pump stations. Knowledge and skills to maintain fleet of equipment, the golf course, and passive recreational land. Knowledge and proficiency in computer software.
Knowledge of purchasing. Basic budgeting and record keeping knowledge. Knowledge of state, federal, municipal, and local laws, rules, regulations. Proficient knowledge of department policies and procedures. Math knowledge and skills sufficient for safety in mixing chemicals and preparing pesticides. Knowledge and skills to oversee and/or perform HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and cleaning services.
