AP/CP Pathologist Interpret surgical pathology, frozen sections, and cytology with electronic case sign-out. Perform gross examination of surgical specimens. Contribute to laboratory quality control, assurance, and infection control efforts. Consult with clients on pathology findings, advise on laboratory technology use for diagnosis and treatment, and provide follow-up support.

Responsibilities
  • Examine and interpret tissue and fluid specimens using various microscopy techniques.
  • Diagnose diseases and abnormalities, and document findings in detailed pathology reports.
  • Consult with physicians on test selection, interpretation, and treatment planning.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing and departmental reviews.
  • Stay current with advancements in pathology through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
  • May supervise pathology staff, train personnel, and perform gross examinations as needed.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
  • Unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in the state of the laboratory and any applicable states receiving specimens.
  • Board certification in anatomic and/or clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of pathology experience in a community hospital setting.
  • Subspecialty board certification, if applicable and available.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain medical staff membership and privileges at relevant medical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of biomedical, clinical, epidemiologic, and behavioral sciences and their application to patient care and education.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and treatment techniques for human diseases.
  • Familiarity with national, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of laboratory policies, procedures, and quality systems.
