Position: Material/Process Inspector I

Job Overview

Material/Process Inspector I – 2503589 Ready to dive into the fascinating world of construction materials testing? Salary and Work Details

Minimum Salary: $45,521.00

Maximum Salary: $71,055.00

Pay Basis: Yearly

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Location: Lufkin District Headquarters, 1805 N. Timberland Drive, Lufkin 75901

Travel: Yes, 10% of the time

Shift: Day Job; 40‑hour week; onsite location flexibility

Responsibilities
  • Conduct nuclear density tests on subgrade, base, and asphaltic concrete pavement.
  • Coordinate test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Report test results to field construction personnel and assist in determining causes of material problems.
  • Drive to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor program status.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: No experience required (experience may be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license – required to drive a state vehicle.
  • Certifications:

    SB202, SB101, SB201, SB103.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications:

    SB202, SB101, SB201, SB103.
  • Attention to detail and ability to review information for errors and problems.
  • Ability to perform calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Proficiency with computers and relevant software applications.
  • Maintain a safe and effective working relationship with others.
  • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to outdoor environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32°F or above 100°F for more than one hour.
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, and moving vehicles/mechanical parts.
  • Requires protective gear (respirator, hard hat, etc.).
  • Medium work: lift up to 50 lb; frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lb.
  • Crouching, bending, standing, walking long distances.
  • Grasping and applying pressure to objects.
  • Hearing normal speaking levels.
  • Physically demanding; requires pre‑employment physical.
  • Must pass drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a safety impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
    • Note:

      The Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, (e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
