Senior Java Engineer

For our Lugano Office in Lugano, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java backend development and relational database modernization projects. This role is significantly more focused on database engineering and modernization than on pure microservices development.

• Contribute to database migration and modernization initiatives, including analysis of existing structures, redesign of schemas, and adaptation of data models and logic to support modern application architectures
• Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL-based solutions, including queries, stored logic, and database objects, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability across systems
• Develop, integrate, and test Java-based backend solutions, microservices architectures, and REST APIs
• Work closely with Agile teams, providing expert consultation and support to product owners to gather requirements and document solutions that align with business objectives
• Apply best practices in secure coding to ensure all solutions are robust, secure, and aligned with regulatory requirements

• Bachelor's/Master'sdegree, preferably in computer science or engineering
• 5+ years of experience in software design and development of Java microservices architecture
• Advanced practical skills with Spring Boot, Spring Security and REST APIsdevelopme
• Proven experience working with Oracle and Postgre
  
  SQL databases, ideally within migration or modernization project
• Solid knowledge of JPA and Hibernate, including entity modeling, query optimization, transaction management, and persistence layer best practices
• Hands‑on experience with database integrations, SQL, and event streaming systems like Apache Kafka
• Proficiency in Italian and English is a must
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology is a plus

• Candidates should be prepared to relocate to Canton Ticino/Switzerland or Italian border areas close to Switzerland (ex. Como)
