Nurse Unit Manager
Hours:
Monday – Friday 8:00 – 17:00
Summary / Objective
In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the residents we serve, the Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the overall nursing care/service on his/her shift, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, and documentation. The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of staff and safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of all residents under their care by following applicable laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, and freedom of choice.
- Supervise CNAs and all subordinate staff, checking their work to ensure assignments are completed.
- Supervise direct care of residents and nursing personnel on shift.
- Provide and receive shift reports.
- Round the unit multiple times during the shift to assure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment.
- Keep physicians and families aware of changes in resident condition.
- Assist in developing comprehensive care plans.
- Complete medical records documenting care provided and other information in accordance with nursing policies while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Ensure infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained when providing care. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents and interact with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect, and promotes a caring environment.
- Answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
- Assist with new admissions, re‑admissions, and assist with the transfer of residents to different rooms within the facility.
- Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in‑services as directed.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for Certified Nurse Aides and other personnel assigned.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Current state license as an RN.
- CPR certified.
Education and Experience
- One year experience as a nurse in a long‑term care setting.
