The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on steps that range from $74,712.27 - $93,456.74. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $81,859.58 annually.

This is a designated competition open only to candidates from the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous Community.

Qualifications Qualifications and Occupational Experience
  • Two-year post-secondary diploma, or a degree in a related field such as Indigenous Studies, Mi'kmaw Studies, Community Development, Social Sciences, Education, Recreation Leadership, Human Services, or a related discipline, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of related occupational experience, including lived and first-hand experience within the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous community.
  • Demonstrated experience in community development, relationship-building, and engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Experience supporting student leadership development, peer mentorship, youth programming, or community-based initiatives.
  • Experience designing, coordinating, and evaluating programs, events, workshops, and community engagement activities.
  • Experience facilitating groups, presentations, workshops, or educational programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, and educational partners.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, email, virtual collaboration platforms, and web-based communication tools.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends to support events and community engagement activities.
Relevant Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Mi'kmaq history, culture, traditions, Treaty Rights, and contemporary community priorities.
  • Understanding of Indigenous student experiences and factors that contribute to student success, persistence, belonging, and well-being.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, students, and community leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience applying culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and student-centered approaches.

Responsibilities What you will be doing...

The Student Community Coordinator is based at the Lunenburg Campus and supports L'nu student success initiatives across the College.

As the Student Community Coordinator, Office of L'nu Student Success, you will play a key role in creating meaningful opportunities for connection, belonging, leadership development, and success for Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students. Grounded in Mi'kmaw ways of knowing, being, and doing, you will build relationships with students, communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partners to support engagement both on campus and in community.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate student peer mentorship and leadership programs that foster student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Mi'kmaq communities, organizations, schools, and community partners to support student engagement pathways.
  • Collaborate with students, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, and College employees to create culturally responsive programming and supports.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and provide functional guidance to student peer mentors and volunteers.
  • Facilitate workshops, presentations, orientations, and learning opportunities that support student development and community connection.
  • Support the development of educational resources, program materials, communications, and digital content that promote awareness of student support programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in cultural events, community gatherings, and College-wide observances such as Mi'kmaq History Month, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Orange Shirt Day activities, and other community-identified events.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, prepare reports, and make recommendations to enhance student engagement initiatives.
