We are seeking a dedicated and capable GP Receptionist to join our practice and contribute to the delivery of high quality patient care.
This role is central to the efficient operation of the surgery, requiring excellent communication skills, strong organisation, and a commitment to providing a courteous and supportive service to all patients. As the first point of contact, you will play a key role in ensuring that every individual receives prompt assistance and a positive experience.
Main duties of the jobResponsibilities include providing a courteous and professional reception service for patients and visitors, managing enquiries both in person and over the telephone, and supporting patients in accessing the appropriate services. The role involves accurately booking, amending, and managing appointments, maintaining up-to-date records, and handling documentation with diligence. The GP Receptionist also processes prescription requests in line with practice procedures, supports clinicians with administrative tasks, and ensures that patient confidentiality is upheld at all times.
In addition, the position contributes to general administrative duties such as filing, scanning, and managing correspondence, while maintaining an organised and welcoming reception area. A commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and high quality service is essential to supporting the practice and delivering excellent patient care.

Job responsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner.
- Manage patient enquiries in person, via telephone, and online.
- Provide information regarding appointments, services, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR.
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments using the clinical system.
- Process repeat prescriptions.
- Update records.
- Assist with referrals, results, recalls, and clinical admin.
- Answer incoming calls promptly and signpost appropriately.
- Handle post, emails, and internal communication.
- Process payments where required.
- Work effectively with clinical and admin staff.
- Follow practice policies and safeguarding guidelines.
- Participate in meetings and training.
- Provide cover for colleagues as needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Experience in a GP practice or healthcare.
