Apprenticeship

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Attendance Improvement Team as an Attendance Support Assistant Apprentice – Data Technician. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification in Data Technician.

In this role, you will provide administrative and procedural support to ensure the effective collection, management, and analysis of attendance and attainment data for children in care and children receiving education outside of school, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records within System C, collecting attendance data from educational settings, managing data sharing agreements, and ensuring data is inputted, verified, and maintained to a high standard. You will identify and resolve data anomalies, support the maintenance and troubleshooting of databases, and help ensure the security, accuracy, and integrity of information.

Working closely with colleagues and educational providers, you will gather and analyse data to support reporting and decision-making, produce simple dashboards and visualisations, and provide information, advice, and signposting in response to enquiries. You will also support colleagues in understanding and using data effectively to improve outcomes for children and young people.

As part of your development, you will work collaboratively with IT colleagues to ensure compliance with data protection and cybersecurity requirements and continuously build your knowledge of data management, IT systems, and industry best practice.

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop technical, analytical, and communication skills while making a positive contribution to improving educational outcomes for children and young people across Luton.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual with a keen interest in data, information management, and improving outcomes for children and young people.

You will have some experience of handling personal and sensitive information confidentially and understand the importance of maintaining accurate records. You will be able to check information carefully and ensure that both computerised and manual records are kept up to date and accurate.

You will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to deal helpfully, politely, and tactfully with colleagues, educational settings, partner agencies, and members of the community. You will be confident responding to enquiries and providing information and signposting where appropriate.

Good IT skills are essential, including the ability to use a range of software packages and data management systems. You will have an eye for detail, be comfortable working with data, and be able to organise and prioritise your workload effectively to meet competing deadlines.

You will demonstrate an understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion, including the impact discrimination can have on individuals and service delivery. A commitment to providing fair and inclusive services is essential.

Applicants should hold Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics (or equivalent), or be willing to work towards achieving these qualifications as part of the apprenticeship programme.

We are seeking someone who is committed to learning and professional development, with a willingness to develop new skills and knowledge throughout the apprenticeship. You will also be flexible and able to adjust working arrangements at short notice to meet changing service demands and priorities, including occasional evening working where required.
