Position OverviewWe are recruiting Trainee Building Inspectors across England, beginning in September 2026.
Salary£23,500 – £27,500 (dependent on experience) on a 35‑hour, hybrid working week.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Trainee Building Inspector you’ll assist in delivering a range of surveying activities related to building control, including:
- Working with designers and contractors to achieve compliance with building regulations.
- Conducting inspections of building work.
- Assisting in technical investigations.
- Responding to dangerous structure call‑outs.
The LABC Academy Programme is a fully funded, two‑year course that will equip you with level 4 and level 5 diplomas in building control surveying. Throughout the programme you will receive:
- Accredited learning towards your diplomas with no student debt.
- Hybrid working: 35‑hour week with two days home‑based learning and three days on‑the‑job training.
- Competitive salary throughout.

- A dedicated LABC coordinator and local authority mentor who meets daily.
- Training to progress to Chartered Surveyor or Building Engineer.
We are looking for technically minded candidates who enjoy problem solving and are eager to build a career in construction. Candidates must meet at least one of the following:
- Minimum 3 A‑levels at grade C or higher (or equivalent – 80 UCAS points).
- Demonstrable experience in a relevant or related discipline (e.g., construction, ex‑military, fire service).
- Level 3 S/NVQ qualification in construction or related discipline.
This role will require regular travel within the local authority area; a full driving licence (or progress towards one) is mandatory.
LocationsCurrent openings are available with Luton Borough Council (LU1 2BQ
); placement will be in a local authority near you.
