About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Students follow a broad curriculum including Shakespeare, modern and classic literature, poetry, drama, creative writing, and language analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and a genuine appreciation of English.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through literacy initiatives, reading programmes, debating, creative writing activities, theatre visits, and enrichment opportunities that extend students’ learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5
  • Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-planned lessons
  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations
  • Develop students’ literacy, analytical, and communication skills
  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
  • Support literacy initiatives and extracurricular activities
  • Inspire students to develop confidence and enthusiasm for English

Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level
  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language
  • Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives
  • Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities
  • A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
