Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary

As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager at our Luton site. You will support defence business lines and may need to travel to equipment supplier locations. The role focuses on either Jet Canopies or Helicopters, contributing to development of manufacturing processes and supporting daily operational activities.

• Develop, document and optimise new and existing manufacturing processes, including SOP creation and updates, and process specifications.
• Update engineering documentation to maintain configuration control and manage point‑of‑introduction activities, first‑article inspection, and customer approval.
• Lead structured problem‑solving projects that address both project deliverables and day‑to‑day manufacturing issues.
• Provide day‑to‑day support to manufacturing operations.
• Support MRB (Material Review Board) activities to review and resolve process deviations or product faults.
• Reduce process‑driven scrap and rework and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish appropriate new process controls and improve existing ones.
• Ensure compliance with the Company’s Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy procedures.

• Minimum HND qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering / Aerospace.
• Manufacturing Engineering experience, ideally in Aerospace, Automotive, or Yellow Goods industry.
• Experience in practical problem‑solving techniques such as A3 or 8D.
• Experience in root cause analysis using Fishbone diagrams and 5‑Whys techniques.

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, process standardisation, kaizen activities such as 5S.
• Experience in lay‑up processes for composite materials.
• Specification interpretation experience.
• Experience with APQP and PPAP standards, including Process Flow Diagram, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Process Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis and Process Capability.

Location:

Luton manufacturing plant.

Core operational hours: 07:30 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday, 07:30 – 12:30 Friday.

UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) required. Applicants normally need to have lived in the UK for at least 5 years prior to application.
