Principal Engineer - Highways & Drainage

Location: Luton (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Benefits

Our client is a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering innovative infrastructure, highways, transport and regeneration projects across the UK. Working across both public and private sector schemes, the team is involved in projects that improve connectivity, support sustainable growth and create lasting benefits for local communities.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Principal Engineer to join their Transport Infrastructure team based in Luton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of highways and drainage projects across a diverse portfolio of public and private sector developments.

Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, you will lead technical delivery, manage project teams, liaise directly with clients and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

The role would particularly suit an individual with strong highways design experience and a good understanding of drainage design and infrastructure solutions.

• Lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage projects.
• Act as technical lead on a range of infrastructure schemes.
• Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
• Liaise directly with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders.
• Review and approve technical outputs produced by engineers and technicians.
• Mentor and support the development of junior team members.
• Contribute to bid preparation, fee proposals and business development activities.
• Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant design standards and client requirements.

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering highways infrastructure projects within a consultancy environment.
• Strong knowledge of highways design standards including DMRB and Manual for Streets.
• Experience managing projects and technical teams.
• Client-facing experience and strong communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and project management capability.

• Experience undertaking or reviewing drainage designs.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards Chartership.
• Experience using Civil 3D, Causeway Flow, Micro Drainage or Info Drainage.
