What You’ll be doing

Are you passionate about making a real difference in local communities? We’re looking for a proactive and resilient Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer to join our frontline team, helping to tackle environmental crime, anti-social behaviour, and business regulation issues across Luton.

Working in a highly visible enforcement role, you’ll investigate complaints, gather evidence, engage confidently with residents and businesses, and take appropriate enforcement action to improve neighbourhoods and protect our communities.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with enforcement experience in environmental crime, anti-social behaviour, or a similar field, who can communicate effectively with a wide range of people, remain calm in challenging situations, and work independently to find practical solutions. You’ll have a good understanding of relevant legislation, strong investigation and report-writing skills, and be comfortable using computerised systems.

This is a physically active role requiring regular patrols, with shifts worked on a rota basis across 37 hours per week, Monday to Saturday. A valid driving licence is essential, and you’ll be expected to obtain Enforcement Accreditation within six months of appointment.

If you’re ready to take pride in making Luton a cleaner, safer and more welcoming place, we’d love to hear from you.

Application Process

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020).

A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.

Applicants for this public-facing post will need to demonstrate the ability to converse, and provide effective help or advice, fluently in spoken English
