Are you passionate about protecting vulnerable families and making a real difference in maternity care? We're looking for a dedicated Named Midwife for Safeguarding to lead the way in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children across our services.
In this pivotal role, you'll provide expert advice and support on safeguarding issues, acting as a key resource for the multidisciplinary team. You'll champion best practice, share your specialist knowledge, and empower colleagues through education and training tailored to those working in maternity care.
As the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, you will play a vital part in shaping and driving forward our safeguarding agenda. You'll work closely with the Head of Safeguarding, Directorate and frontline staff to uphold our duty to protect children from harm, while ensuring our policies and guidelines remain current, evidence‑based and aligned with national standards.
Responsibilities- Hold the Named Midwife for Safeguarding role for the Trust and work closely with the Named Doctors for Safeguarding Children and Young People to support all activities necessary to meet statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
- Participate in partnership working, including the Local Safeguarding Children’s Boards sub‑groups as appropriate.
- Advise police, social care, and other agencies on health matters regarding safeguarding children in the hospital and hospital outreach services.
- Ensure safe and robust safeguarding systems and processes are in place across the Trust in relation to safeguarding children and young people.
- Provide expert advice to the Trust Board on matters relating to Child Protection and Safeguarding Children.
- Support the safeguarding team in delivering quality services.
- Assist with the development of processes and procedures for safeguarding to minimise risk and maintain prevention of abuse.
- Deliver a quality service to people with care and support needs and increase the skills and confidence of Trust staff to manage safeguarding concerns more confidently.
The role is based at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing maternity care across two hospital sites in Bedford and Luton.
