This is a newly created and exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Liaison Psychiatry to support clinical leadership and service development. The post holder will be an experienced clinician with an accredited Masters of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice. Working within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines, the post holder will practice autonomously and exercise independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care and management of patients including the prescribing of medicines, and referring patients to an appropriate specialist.

They will continuously work to develop their scope of competence and capability. They will support the education and development of other healthcare professionals and ensure the provision of continuity of care. The post holder will work collaboratively with the team and external providers. The post holder will act as a clinical leader within their service, supporting the provision of clinical expertise that is evidence based.

They will actively participate in audit, research and the development of local multi-professional guidelines and protocols, while incorporating evidence-based research and best practices in consultation with other healthcare professionals. The post holder will promote clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Provide expertise in liaison psychiatry and work independently to assess patients and ensure robust care plans are in place.
  • Provide clinical leadership within the psychiatric liaison team and support acute Trust partners in managing mental health needs, including teaching and training and contribution to relevant policies and governance.
  • Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision‑making to establish correct diagnosis and determine evidence‑based therapeutic interventions, which will include other therapies and prescribing medication where legislation permits and within their sphere of competence allows and actively monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
  • Plan and manage complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others, delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use, and provide direct support to staff, patients and clients.
