Facilities Maintenance Engineer
Location:
Luton (5 days per week on site)
Salary: £45,000 per annum
Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm (37.5 hours per week)

We are recruiting a Facilities Maintenance Engineer to join a large, well‑established site in Luton. This is a permanent, on‑site role where you will be the key maintenance presence, responsible for ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the building and its services.
You will take ownership of planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance checks, site records, and contractor coordination, working closely with the on‑site facilities team and acting as the go‑to technical contact.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly compliance checks in line with site requirements
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive mechanical and electrical tasks
- Maintain accurate site records, logbooks, and compliance documentation
- Ensure all contractual compliance tasks are completed on time and ready for inspection
- Act as the main technical point of contact on site, coordinating project works and specialist trades when required
- Respond to breakdowns, diagnose issues, and support solutions including arranging specialist attendance where authorised
- Book and manage subcontractors for PPM works, ensuring permits, RAMS, and safe working practices are followed
- Follow up remedial and repair works to ensure timely completion
- Carry out general handyman and first‑response duties for site users
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional working environment at all times
Daily:
- Plant room inspections
- Toilet and water system checks
- Lighting and lamp replacements
- General maintenance and site administration
Weekly:
- Fire alarm bell testing
- Generator fuel checks
- Flushing of little‑used outlets
Monthly:
- Utility meter readings
- Water temperature checks and flushing
- Emergency lighting testing
- Attendance at monthly site review meetings
- Quarterly, 6‑monthly, and annual mechanical maintenance (excluding gas and AC)
- Quarterly, 6‑monthly, and annual electrical maintenance (excluding annual emergency light discharge and main board inspections)
- A multi‑skilled facilities or maintenance engineer with a proactive, can‑do attitude
- Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance experience
- Comfortable managing site compliance, documentation, and contractor control
- Organised, reliable, and customer‑focused
- Confident acting as the first point of contact on site
- Able to work independently and take ownership of the site
- £45,000 salary
