Overview

Team Leader - Building at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 20 February 2026.

The Team Leader will be responsible for allocating work to the Building Services team, providing technical guidance on complex maintenance issues, and ensuring that all activities are carried out with minimal disruption to patient care. Key responsibilities include overseeing the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, electrical systems, and associated infrastructure; ensuring full compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements; supporting the delivery of capital projects;

and managing repairs and maintenance activities to uphold a safe, efficient, and compliant estate.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision of the building trade staff
  • Issuing maintenance jobs to all trades via the MICAD helpdesk.
  • To complete all mandatory training as required.
  • Supervision of non - building trade staff.
  • Cover the other trades Team Leader in times of absence.
  • Liaison and communication with other departments regarding maintenance activities.
  • To assist and give guidance to trade staff and contractors where necessary.
  • Operate relevant permit to work systems.
  • Assist in carrying out annual appraisals of maintenance staff.
  • Implement Trust and local policies and propose changes to departmental practices where appropriate.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Monitoring of timesheets including sickness and holidays.
  • Check and sign timesheets.
  • Attend various meetings as and when required.
  • To assist in the recruitment of trade staff.
  • Source and purchase materials, spare and replacement parts, tools and equipment as required keeping within budgeted limits.
  • Obtain quotations from contractors, place orders and supervise work ensuring best value for money and quality of work.
  • Ensuring acceptable standards of productivity and work quality
