Interim Director of Children’s Social Care

Reporting to: Corporate Director, Children, Young People & Education

Contract Type: 1-year Fixed Term Contract (FTC) / Secondment

Start Date: January 2026

Note: This is a Senior leadership position but not the statutory Director of Children’s Services.

Lead and maintain strong children's social care practice.

• Children’s social care operations
• Transformation programmes
• Family First Programme (FFP)
• Embedding sufficiency and placement strategies
• Foster care and in-house provision strategy
• A technically strong senior social work leader (e.g., Head of Service, AD, or Director level).

• Large-scale operational management
• Complex caseload environments
• Corporate governance and working with elected members
• Ability to lead transformation at pace
• Strong communicator, able to navigate political and organisational interfaces
• Ideally some London experience (not mandatory)
• Demonstrated ability to embed improvement over design
• High resilience; thrives in a busy, pressured environment
• Someone who fits culturally – collaborative, pragmatic, corporate‑minded
