Central Luton Neighbourhood Area Board About the Board

Central Luton is set to receive up to £20 million over 10 years through the Pride in Place Programme, secured by Rachel Hopkins MP and the UK Government. The Pride in Place Programme puts local people in the lead giving the community of Central Luton the power to shape how funding is spent to improve the area. An independent Central Luton Neighbourhood Board will create the plan, with at least 75% of members living or working in the Central Luton area.

They’ll work with residents to ensure it reflects what matters most. We are recruiting an independent Chair and board members now.

What You’ll Do – Chair
  • Lead recruitment of the Neighbourhood Board (with Rachel Hopkins and Luton Council)
  • Work with the Board to:
    • Engage the community
    • Shape a shared local vision
    • Guide future investment
  • Lead the development of the Plan
  • Lead delivery of the Plan
What You’ll Do – Board Member
  • Oversee community engagement, shape a shared local vision, and guide the future investment in Central Luton
  • Collectively lead on the development of the Pride in Place Plan for the Central Luton
  • Make decisions on how funding should be spent
  • Develop the plan
  • Support delivery of the Plan
  • Include people with a strong connection to the area
  • New to this kind of work – what matters most is a commitment to seeing change and improving their community
  • Local business people
  • Grassroots campaigner
  • Workplace representative
  • Faith or community leader
  • From a local sport, arts, cultural or heritage organisation, and public agencies such as a local school or health care provider.

  • Experience or interest in community development, business, grassroots campaigning, or public service
Role of the Chair

This is a voluntary role (similar to a school governor or charity trustee). A small payment may be available to support those who couldn't otherwise take part. The Chair will be appointed initially for two years with the option to extend by a further two years. Be active in the community, or passionate about the area.

This is a voluntary role, similar to a school governor or charity trustee. Reasonable expenses for travel and other such things as childcare will be considered.

Time Commitment
  • Around 2 days per month
  • Quarterly Board meetings
