Job overviewJoin our school nursing team to provide early intervention, health promotion, and child and family support across local schools in Luton.
Key responsibilities- Work within a clinical governance framework and safeguard standards of care.
- Promote and participate in health promotion initiatives.
- Act as a signpost for families to other relevant services and empower them as users.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, carers and staff, implementing evidence‑based practice.
- Act as a nurse prescriber holding V100 qualification.
- Develop specialised services based on clear evidence of need, in partnership with commissioners.
- Provide core school nursing programme to families and communities.
- Work with clients and families to maximise physical, emotional, psychological and social well‑being.
- Conduct holistic assessment of clients’ health needs and produce, implement and review the care plan.
- Review and evaluate outcomes for children and families.
- Refer clients to other agencies as appropriate, including onward referral of vulnerable children and adults.
- Develop overall specialist protection plans with other professionals when indicated (e.g., Child Protection Plan).
- Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Experience safeguarding and promoting welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Understanding of the NHS and current health policies and priorities.
- Knowledge of child protection.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including record keeping, report writing, data collection and evaluations.
- Effective communication with children, young people and parents/carers.
- Critical reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
- Evidence of undertaking audit.
- Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and Systm One.
- Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) School Nursing qualification.
- Registered Nurse – Adult or Paediatric, current NMC registration.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards.
- Recent nursing experience.
- Experience negotiating and liaising within a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Experience in child health, health promotion and family support.
- Experience ensuring values such as Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment are adhered to daily.
- Experience supporting students and other learners.
- Knowledge of Community Nursing.
- Experience working with children/young people.
