Technical Manager

Role Overview The Technical Manager will lead the site’s technical, food safety, hygiene and regulatory functions, ensuring the operation consistently meets legal, customer and BRC standards. The role will manage the technical team, drive food safety culture and oversee quality and compliance across the site and wider supply chain.

Key Responsibilities Lead all aspects of technical, quality, food safety and legal compliance across the site.

Manage and develop the technical team, setting objectives and maintaining high standards of performance.

Maintain the site’s BRC-certified quality systems, with a minimum target of Grade

A.Own and maintain HACCP, food safety procedures, specifications, verification and testing programmes.

Manage internal and supplier audits, ensuring non-conformances are identified, reported and closed out effectively.

Ensure suppliers and the wider supply chain meet required quality, safety, legality and compliance standards.

Manage customer technical requirements, including audits, complaints, concessions and corrective actions.

Ensure effective cold-chain, hygiene, waste management and site food safety controls.

Lead technical and HACCP review meetings and promote a strong food safety culture across the site.

Develop and maintain training, induction, SOP, risk assessment and technical documentation.

Monitor technical performance, KPIs and improvement plans, ensuring resources and budgets are managed effectively.

Work closely with operations and other departments to maintain high standards of health & safety, quality and legal compliance.

Support recruitment, training, performance management and development of site employees.

Experience & Skills Proven Technical Management experience within chilled food manufacturing.

Strong knowledge of BRC and HACCP, with HACCP Level 4 or above required.

Experience managing technical/QA teams and delivering food safety training.

Strong understanding of food safety, quality, legality, auditing and regulatory requirements.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Able to manage multiple priorities and drive continuous improvement.

Strong report writing, documentation and record-keeping skills.

Good IT, database and systems capability.

Degree-level education preferred.

Additional Requirements Occasional travel and weekend working may be required.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively promote safe working practices and maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and employee safety across the site.
