Job Summary As a Skilled Shift Engineer at Arriva plc, you will be responsible for the effective maintenance, repair, and fault diagnosis of our fleet of vehicles, ensuring their operational readiness and contributing to the smooth running of our services. You will work as part of a dedicated team, maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative repairs on a diverse fleet of vehicles (e.g., buses, trains, coaches). Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals. Perform scheduled servicing and unscheduled repairs to ensure vehicles comply with all safety and roadworthiness regulations. Carry out component overhauls and replacements, including engines, gearboxes, and braking systems.

Complete all necessary documentation accurately and on time, including job sheets, defect reports, and maintenance records. Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures, promoting a safe working environment. Work effectively as part of a shift team, communicating clearly with colleagues and supervisors. Assist in maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment. Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

Job Qualifications Proven experience as a skilled mechanic or engineer, ideally within the automotive, heavy vehicle, or rail industry. Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance, or equivalent). Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Good communication and interpersonal skills. A valid UK driving licence (preferably with PCV/HGV entitlement or willingness to obtain). Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required. Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to vehicle maintenance. (blob:)
