Job Description - Technical Specialist – Baggage Operations (17110)
Role OverviewAs a Technical Specialist – Baggage Operations, you will drive the resilience, scalability, and technical evolution of critical systems that impact millions of passengers. In this role, you will design, configure, and evolve technologies spanning Self‑Service Bag Drop (SBD), real‑time tracking, reconciliation compliance, and multi‑supplier integrations. Over the next 2–3 years, you will champion major network expansions, transition fragmented tech into standardised models, and pioneer next‑generation telemetry and observability across our airport estate.
KeyAccountabilities Lifecycle Management & Quality Assurance
- Design Technical Solutions:
Translate operational requirements into scalable, resilient baggage technology solutions. - System Integration:
Merge third‑party baggage systems into a cohesive, highly observable enterprise network. - Embed Observability:
Ensure monitoring, logging, and proactive alerting are built into every solution by design. - Lifecycle Planning:
Manage tech upgrades, decommissioning, and standardisation across multiple airports.
- Drive Standardisation:
Define repeatable operational configurations, tooling, and orchestration mechanisms across the estate. - Expert Troubleshooting:
Provide tier‑3 technical expertise to resolve complex incidents across integrated, multi‑vendor systems. - Support I&O Teams:
Partner with Infrastructure & Operations to diagnose cross‑system issues and drastically reduce operational recovery times.
- Enhance Performance:
Improve service reliability and meet strict uptime and incident‑detection targets through advanced telemetry. - Automate Processes:
Design and implement automation tools to eliminate manual interventions and streamline remote operational support.
What We Are Looking For Core Technical Competencies
- Baggage & Airport Tech Expertise:
Proven understanding of baggage handling environments, reconciliation systems, self‑service processing, and partner integrations. - Integration & Interoperability:
Strong knowledge of connecting third‑party systems within a highly distributed enterprise ecosystem. - Observability Mastery:
Deep familiarity with modern monitoring, alerting, logging tools, and supportability frameworks. - Complex Problem Solving:
Track record of diagnosing and resolving technical friction points within live, multi‑vendor environments. - Operational Execution:
Ability to safely coordinate, test, and deploy technical changes within live, critical operational environments. - Risk & Impact Awareness:
Sharp instincts for assessing technical and operational risks before they affect flights or customers. - Cross‑Functional Communication:
Exceptional ability to translate complex technical jargon into clear insights for Product Managers, Domain Architecture, Security, handlers, and airport authorities.
