OverviewA Systems Analyst develops applications; implements software packages, integrates applications, and provides 24x7 application support. Collaborates on all phases of the software development life-cycle (SDLC) with a focus on the application design, development, and implementation phases. Utilizes appropriate development tools and technologies in keeping with the IT architecture.
Focus AreaSupport TECO's energy control center mainly by managing GE's E-terra EMS (Energy Management System). The real‑time system helps TECO manage the transmission and generation assets that make up the Bulk Electric System for Tampa. Responsibilities include administering and supporting the system for operators in the control center, handling data from the EMS to external departments (requiring programming and database interactions), and supporting smaller ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) applications as needed.
AdvancementAdvancement to a higher level is based on value added to the Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e., based solely on time in the job, but will be based on direct observation of the employee's performance, accomplishments, qualifications, and the business and/or technical needs of the department.
Working ConditionsMost work is performed in an office environment, but occasional travel to operating locations is required.
Levels- Level 1 – Associate Systems Analyst
- Develop software of limited complexity based on specifications.
- Implement software packages with limited configuration and integration.
- Integrate applications with limited interface complexity.
- Provide 24x7 primary support for niche or core applications; may support mission‑critical applications secondarily.
- Assist with documentation and estimates during the request and analysis phases of SDLC.
- Produce design, development, and implementation deliverables under guidance of senior staff.
- Participate in Application Development and Support teams and project teams under manager supervision.
- Maintain knowledge of business areas and appropriate technical skills.
- Level 2 – Systems Analyst
- Develop software of moderate complexity.
- Implement software packages with moderate configuration and integration; may contact vendors remotely or onsite.
- Integrate applications with moderately complex interfaces.
- Provide 24x7 primary and/or secondary support for niche, core, or mission‑critical applications.
- Produce required documentation and estimates during request and analysis phases; reviewed by senior staff.
- Deliver design, development, and implementation deliverables; reviewed by senior staff.
- Participate in Application Development and Support teams; may function as Technical Lead on small projects.
- Maintain knowledge of business areas and technical skills.
- Level 3 – Senior Systems Analyst
- Develop complex software and integrate applications with complex interfaces.
- Create and review technical design specifications.
- Work under limited supervision and mentor junior staff.
- Provide 24x7 primary and/or secondary support for niche, core, or mission‑critical applications.
- Produce documentation and estimates; review junior staff deliverables.
- Deliver design, development, and implementation deliverables; review junior staff deliverables.
- May function as Technical Lead on projects and mentor junior staff.
- Maintain knowledge of business areas and technical skills.
- Participate in developing and driving standard practices.
- Level 4 – Systems Analyst Consultant
- Lead complex software development projects and select/implement software packages.
- Drive substantial interaction with vendor resources.
