Palliative Care Physician
Weare looking for a Specialty Doctor to join our Medical Team, for six sessions (3days) a week, plus on call commitments. This is a new post that is envisaged tobe for one year in the first instance. The post has been funded to supportincreasing clinical demand and ensure that we can continue to provide high quality palliative care to patients and their families in the New Forest and onthe Waterside.
Mainduties of the job
You will join a highly motivated and enthusiastic multi-professional team who work across community, inpatient andday-care settings in close partnership with the CCG and hospital colleagues. Wedeliver excellent, evidence based palliative care to patients with advancedlife-limiting illnesses and complex physical, emotional, psychological andsocial problems, who live within our catchment area of the South New Forest and Totton.
Being passionate about palliative and end of life care and a team player with excellent communication skills are essential.
Applicants should have established experience working in a community palliative care setting as this role will require the successful post holder to workpredominantly alongside our community palliative care team.
You must befully registered with the GMC and have appropriate post registration experience.

This is a one year, fixed term part time specialtydoctor post in palliative medicine, based at Oakhaven Hospice. The post will consistof six sessions (three days a week) with a 1 in 5/6 non-residential on call.
The post holder will work predominantly in the community with our experienced CNS team to support and manage patients in theirown homes. Depending on clinical need the post holder will also work on thein-patient unit on occasion and will cover the in-patient unit whilst on call. Dueto the level of autonomy required for community aspect this role it is expected that applicants will have anumber of years of experience of community based palliative care provision andfeel confident working independently in this setting (with support from seniorclinicians as appropriate).
This is a new post created to support theincreasing demand we are seeing for our clinical service.
The post-holder will be expected to work with professional colleagues and hospice managers in the efficient running of services and will share with other practitioners in the medical contribution to management. Subject to the provisions of the terms and conditions of service,you are expected to observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, drawnup in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow thestanding orders and financial instructions of the trust.
All medical staff are expected to comply with appropriate health and safety policies.
Person Specification Experience- Full GMC registration, a licence to practice and at least 5 years full-time postgraduate training (or demonstration of equivalent experience and competencies)

- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- At least 2 years prior experience of managing specialist palliative care patients in the community setting
- Knowledge and experience of management of symptoms associated with terminal illnesses, including non-malignant conditions
- Research interest
- Previous experience in leading service development projects.
- You must be fully registered with the GMC and have appropriate post registration experience.
