Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join the radiation protection team as a Diagnostic Medical Physicist (or someone close to achieving this or wishing to train to become one). It is a full‑time role, with the possibility of part‑time working or annualised hours. You will carry out the routine duties and responsibilities of a clinical scientist or diagnostic MPE, including supervising quality control of X‑ray equipment and acting in accordance with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017/24.
There is extensive scope for professional development within the role and the team.
- Carry out the Diagnostic Medical Physicist role for Diagnostic Imaging across the Mid and South Essex Group (MSE).
- Assist in routine diagnostic quality assurance and control across the MSE.
- Provide Diagnostic Medical Physics input to supported hospitals as required.
- Develop additional skills and train other staff to strengthen team resilience.
- Offer support in MRI and laser protection where interested.
- Take responsibility for equipment quality control, supervision and training of other team members.
- Manage incident reporting, research applications and protocol development.
- Attend relevant meetings and represent the team when required.

Person SpecificationProfessional (Essential)
- Experience in the role of diagnostic MPE or readiness to qualify.
- On the HPC register of clinical scientists.
Professional (Desirable)
- Experience of QC of X‑ray equipment.
- Experience of developing protocols and work instructions.
- Experience of training, presenting and representing departments at meetings.
- First degree in physics or equivalent.
- On the RPA
2000 list of Diagnostic MPEs.
Educational (Essential)
- Degree in physics or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in medical or radiation physics or equivalent.
