The Workforce Solutions Office, part of the Professional & Career Studies Division, addresses the business and healthcare educational needs of employers, job seekers, and the community to enhance economic prosperity and quality of life throughout the Greater Lynchburg Region.

The Workforce Solutions Office at Central Virginia Community College seeks a motivated, service-oriented professional to serve as Workforce Training Specialist. This entry-level position provides administrative, operational, event, and business-development support to the Workforce Training Coordinator as the department's customized and corporate training portfolio grows. The successful candidate will divide time between administrative/logistical support, classroom and event coverage, and entry-level outreach to area employers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Workforce Training Coordinator, including scheduling, registration assistance, custom training and instructor agreements, surveys, and records/dashboard tracking of outputs and outcomes; maintain electronic program files.
  • Assist with building and refinement of the college's business/employer database and industry clusters, and support continuous improvement initiatives in processes, systems, and technology use, as directed by the Coordinator.
  • Provide on-site and off-site logistical and participant support for open-enrollment classes, assessments, special projects, and employer-site trainings, including during nontraditional (evening/weekend) hours and occasional overnight travel within and outside the region.
  • Conduct entry-level outreach to area employers to introduce customized training and business services (credit, noncredit, distance learning, and referrals to other college departments and services); maintain employer contact records.
  • Assist in drafting training proposals, quotes, outlines, and supportive documents under the direction and review of the Workforce Training Coordinator.
  • Assist with development, editing, and distribution of marketing/outreach materials and promotional campaigns, and support special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in relevant college committees as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in an administrative, customer-service, or sales/marketing support capacity.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Forms) and proficiency with, or strong aptitude for, artificial intelligence and data/dashboard tracking tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and persuasively with the public and business contacts.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and project-management skills; ability to manage multiple diverse and complex projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student/adult/business populations.
  • Availability for occasional evening/weekend hours and occasional overnight travel to support classes and events.
Additional Considerations:
  • Prior experience supporting workforce development, continuing education, or corporate training programs.
  • Demonstrated interest or coursework in business development, marketing, or program administration.
  • Experience with CRM or contact-tracking systems and strong proficiency in technology.
