Biology Teaching Faculty Central Virginia Community College Job Description
Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
Teach 30 credit hours (in-person day and evening classes as well as synchronous or asynchronous online modalities) per academic year and maintain 10 office hours per week. Participate in departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching assignments may include classes on the main campus as well as at our off-site centers and may include classes with dual-enrolled students in Early College programs, the CTE Academy, and/or the Governor’s STEM Academy.
Perform other assigned duties and departmental activities as required, such as committee assignments related to college governance and student support and success. Position longevity depends on sufficient funding and enrollment.
Minimum of a master’s degree in biology or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in biology;
PhD preferred. Proficiency and willingness to teach undergraduate biology courses as offered across the college’s degree programs. Proficiency in and willingness to incorporate new and emerging pedagogies in the classroom.
Must demonstrate effective and engaging teaching skills, both in person and online. Must have the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
Additional ConsiderationsPrior teaching experience in the community college environment along with teaching of dual-enrolled students.
Required TravelDuties may involve travel to teach at off-site centers in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell County
