Restorative Academy Secondary English Teacher

This position will be supervised by the Department of Student Services and will be responsible for providing instructional services to students who are placed at the Restorative Academies. The Restorative Academy is a program for students who need to develop behavioral and academic skills to be successful at their base school. The Restorative Academy is a 9-12 week alternative placement for students to continue their instruction and engage in activities to promote appropriate social and emotional interactions.
This position will provide English instruction to middle and high school students in a small class setting (approximately 10 students). This teacher will focus on building new skills and work to determine and address areas of deficit.
- Provides intervention services to students that are not achieving success through regular classroom instruction.
- Helps to identify students in need of individualized or small-group instruction that focuses on specific skill deficits.
- Implements frequent progress monitoring to determine the effectiveness of intervention services.
- Provides diagnostic services for students who have demonstrated a lack of progress with conventional intervention strategies and programs.
- Supports the overall English program in the building as directed by the coordinator.
- Communicates with base school teachers to determine students’ needs.
- Completes daily written lesson plans which fulfill learning objectives consistent with Lynchburg City School’s curricula and SOLs.
- Works to achieve division/school/department objectives.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching methods.
- Communicates objective(s) and purpose(s) of the lesson.
- Utilizes various forms of technology to assist in the delivery of instruction.
- Provides opportunities for student responses and gives appropriate feedback to students.
- Paces instruction to provide opportunities for student success.
- Delivers curriculum and instruction in accordance with school division guidelines.
- Establishes, communicates, and maintains high standards for responsible student behavior.
- Plans for and makes effective use of time, materials, and resources.
- Organizes students for effective instruction.
