POSITION SUMMARY
The substitute teacher provides instructional continuity for students when the regularly assigned teacher is absent. The substitute teacher implements lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher, maintains a safe and supportive learning environment, supervises students, and performs other instructional responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee.
The substitute teacher is expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility, and a commitment to student learning and the mission of the school division. Lynchburg City School's mission:

- Reports to the assigned school and classroom on time and prepared to fulfill assigned instructional responsibilities.
- Reviews and follows lesson plans, instructional materials, classroom procedures, and directions provided by the classroom teacher.
- Delivers instruction and learning activities consistent with the teacher's plans and school division expectations.
- Maintains a safe, orderly, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Manages student behavior and maintains appropriate classroom expectations.
- Supervises students during instructional and assigned non-instructional activities.
- Supports the academic, behavioral, and instructional needs of students.
- Maintains required attendance, classroom, and student-related records.
- Communicates relevant information regarding the school day, student needs, classroom concerns, and unfinished assignments to the appropriate school personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information and complies with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
Follows established procedures for student safety, emergencies, discipline, technology, and other school operations. - Exercises sound judgment and seeks assistance from appropriate school personnel when needed.
