- Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of directly related experience
- An advanced degree (MS or PhD) may substitute for 1-3 years of related work experience
- Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with PC-based applications such as MS Office
- Proficient in appropriate programming tools like C++, C#, Visual Basic, ASP, JAVA, PLSequel, WEB 2.0
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of Business Unit staff and management
- Ability to change priorities quickly, confront issues directly and work well as part of a team

You may have also acquired the following skills:
- Collaborative problem-solving mindset, ability to break down complex mechanical analysis problems into discrete steps
- Strong experience in Scripting Languages (Python, Bash) and LaTeX. Preference for experience with Scientific Python libraries (xarray, pandas, scipy, matplotlib), automated testing frameworks (pytest) and Python packaging (Conda)
- Experience with source control (git) and developing chained execution processes
- Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics and/or dynamics. Experience in finite element analysis and/or computational fluid dynamics
- Experience working in nuclear industry (or other similarly regulated industries)

As a Scientific Computing Software Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit.
Your work will include developing Safety Related software in Python for automation of engineering calculations in solid mechanics, thermal hydraulics, computational fluid dynamics and other engineering disciplines. You'll work directly with engineering teams to understand their calculation needs and define appropriate software scopes. You'll be relied upon to provide support and training to engineers to enable them to complete their work efficiently and with high quality.

Your Total Rewards PackageThe range of base salary for the position is between $83,000 - $113,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
