This position is responsible for managing patient registrations in Acute Revenue Cycle Patient Access Departments. As the first point of contact for most Centra patients, this position provides key customer and financial services. The role handles pre-registration, registration, upfront collections/payment plans, medical necessity checking, and financial counseling, as well as referencing patients to appropriate follow-up sources.
Responsibilities- Registers patients for various hospital services, meeting Patient Access standards and collecting accurate patient information and demographics.
- Verifies and reviews insurance plans, coordinating benefits on behalf of patients.
- Manages payments at point of service, collecting and posting payments, providing receipts, and balancing transactions per shift.
- Obtains completed authorizations and notifications of admissions for patients.
- Assists patients with financial clearance by communicating financial responsibility through estimates, setting up payment plans, or referring to financial counselors.
- Responds to phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication.
- Promotes a positive working environment and maintains open communication.
- Complies with governmental regulations regarding healthcare, billing, HIPAA, TJC, CMS, EMTALA, and Centra and Acute Revenue Cycle department policies.
- Provides courteous service to all stakeholders, resolving issues and strengthening customer relationships.
- Cover other shifts and departments as needed within Acute Revenue Cycle Departments.
- Assist in training new hires as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested; job specifications may be modified.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Proficient typing, spelling, and computer skills; multitasking with data entry using multiple applications.
- High level of customer service, attention to detail, critical thinking, and proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Some college experience in healthcare, business, accounting, or a related field; associate or bachelor’s degree in medical preferred.
- Patient registration or medical office experience.
- Ability to communicate financial and insurance information.
