Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Meet physical and sensory requirements stated below and be able to work in the described environment.
  • Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.
  • Assist in management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training and developing, coaching and counseling, and terminating department staff as needed.
  • Ensure that all employment practices are administered fairly and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Assist the DON in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day‑to‑day functions of the nursing department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON as necessary/required concerning the operation of the nursing department.
  • Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to verify continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
  • Monitor day‑to‑day operation of the nursing department and establish priorities, manage records, budgets, or supplies.
  • Confirm that all nursing personnel are following their respective job descriptions.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan.
  • Serve on various committees such as Infection Control, Quality Assurance, etc., in the absence of the DON.
  • Delegate the necessary administrative authority and accountability to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors.
  • li>Make daily rounds of the nursing department to verify that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; report findings to the DON.
  • Monitor absenteeism to ensure adequate staffing at all times; report problem areas to the DON.
  • Review complaints and grievances made by department personnel; report to the Director as required.
  • Confirm participation in the facility’s TB testing program.
  • Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc.; inform the DON when physician visits are not made in a timely manner.
  • Review nurses’ notes to verify that they are informative, descriptive, and consistent with the resident’s wishes.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to verify proper administration.
  • Comply with company safety and infection control procedures, including proper use of mechanical lifts and gait belts.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in resident care rooms and treatment areas.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of procedures for the safe operation of all nursing equipment.
  • Assist the MDS/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including care plans.
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Registered Nurse in good standing with a current state license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of managerial/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current active CPR certification.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and Intranet navigation.
  • Highest level of professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to maintain integrity.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Independent decision‑making with minimal supervision.
  • Approachable, flexible, and adaptable to change.
Physical And Sensory Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity: push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and move or carry that weight a minimum distance of fifty (50) feet.
  • Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Bending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.
  • Sitting for more than two (2) hours at a time.
  • Requires writing and/or computer work with repetitive typing and concentrating on a computer screen for more than two (2) hours at a time.
